Commander 1st NATO Signal Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Torsten Peters

Lieutenant Colonel Torsten Peters was born in Perleberg, Germany, on 3 April 1976. He joined the German military as a conscript in 1995. In July 1997, after a short two semester study period at the Carl-von-Ossietzky-University in Oldenburg, he became an Officer Cadet in the German Army. Upon completion of the traditional national military training program for a Signal Troop Officer he continued his study of Business Administration at the Helmut-Schmidt-University in Hamburg. Graduating in 2004, he was initially assigned as a platoon leader then subsequently became the 2IC in the former Signal Battalion 1, Rotenburg (Wuemme), Germany.

In 2006 he took over command of the 4th Company, Signal Regiment 1, Rotenburg (Wuemme), Germany. During that time he was operationally deployed as Commander of the Staff and Support Company to the Balkans, part of KFOR. In April 2010 he was assigned as a military superior for studying officers and officer cadets at Helmut-Schmidt-University in Hamburg. In 2011 he became the Chief S3 for the German NSE to the 1st NATO Signal Battalion at Wesel, Germany.

In March 2013, during the stand-up phase for the capability commands of the German Joint Support Service Command, he was assigned to the German Armed Forces CIS Command in Bonn, Germany. Two years later, in 2015, he was assigned as the Head of the Chief of Staff’s office of the German Armed Forces CIS Command in Bonn, Germany. In 2016 he served as Chief Information Management in the G6 branch of 1st Armoured Division in Oldenburg, Germany. LTC Peters assumed Command of the 1st NATO Signal Battalion on 28 September 2018.
 
LTC Peters is married to Dana. They have two teenage children, Tim and Rieka.
